Jericho workshop builds a new generation of police trainers
To ensure that officers build internal training capacity and long-term organisational improvement, EUPOL COPPS police advisers organised a workshop for 20 Palestinian police officers from the Specialised Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 18 – 21 May at the Jericho-based Palestine College for Police Sciences.
The training of trainers encourages leadership qualities within the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP), helping to create future mentors and leaders. The participants belong to diverse investigative backgrounds, some with extensive experience in knowledge transfer, others with limited formal pedagogical training.
This training constitutes the first step designed to support the development of a PCP/Palestinian Authority- led specialised CID Training programme, which focuses on gaining critical knowledge in criminalistics, criminology, and crime investigation.
The Programme, which falls under the sole jurisdiction and ownership of the police, is designed to support the reorganisation of the CID into an integrated department capable of investigating all types of criminal phenomena. Additionally, this training will help recognise expertise and be part of the certification process of criminal investigators.
EUPOL COPPS remains committed to supporting its partners in strengthening capacities in the security and justice sector, with a focus on quality training, institutional development, and the promotion of the rule of law.
