Deputy Head of Mission/ Chief of Staff
Joerg Krempel, a German national, has started his appointment as EUPOL COPPS’ Deputy Head of Mission and Chief of Staff on 1 October 2024. He has worked in the field of international law, peace and security for more than 15 years.
Before joining EUPOL COPPS Mr Krempel was a Senior Capability Development Planner in the field of the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) at the European External Action Service (EEAS) in Brussels. Prior to joining the EEAS in Brussels, Mr. Krempel held various positions in CSDP missions in the Sahel Region (EUCAP Sahel Mali and EUCAP Sahel Niger), where he worked for seven years.
Joerg Krempel is an expert and researcher on Security Sector Reform processes, with particular focus on Sub-Saharian Africa and Afghanistan (Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (Germany). Before working on security related issues, he worked in the field of international Human Rights Law, including with the Human Rights Section at UNESCO.
He studied law at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. He holds an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, and a master’s degree in international Conflict Studies from the Institute of Political Studies in France.
Mr. Krempel is married and has one child.
