Palestinian Police have achieved headway, says Hansjoerg Haber
Ramallah, 21 June, 2011 - The Palestinian Civil Police has made progress towards becoming a professional police force that meets international standards, Ambassador Hansjoerg Haber, the European Union Civilian Operations Commander, said during a medal parade ceremony for members of EUPOLCOPS in Ramallah.
Haber, who started a two-day visit to the West Bank on Monday, assured that the PCP “is entirely focused and organised now and I am very gratified to see that.” He added that the Palestinian Authority, with the help and support of EUPOL COPPS, is working on establishing “a professional and effective police force that meet international standards that maintains the rule of law in the West Bank in difficult conditions.”
Henrik Malmquist, Head of Mission, said during the ceremony that members of EUPOL COPPS have contributed to establish peace and stability by “supporting the Palestinian Civil Police and justice institutions in their effort to build a future Palestinian state living peacefully with their neighbours.”
The EUPOL COPPS was established in 2006 to further strengthening law and order through training of PCP and to advise Palestinian counterparts on criminal justice and rule of law related aspects under the Palestinian ownersh
