Palestinian Police Officers take part in Tourist Police Course in Italy
Ramallah, Dec. 15 2011 - Ten senior Palestinian police officers from Tourist Department have recently concluded a two-week course in an Italian police academy in Rome.
The course introduced some concepts, theories and policing methodology which shall help in improving even more the capabilities of the Palestinian Tourist Police Department.
The officers were briefed and trained by Italian experts on Crisis Management and Main Event Operational plan, mainly focused on providing security and safety during Religious and Civil events usually attended by tens of thousands of visitors and V.I.Ps.
During the course, the participants met representative of the Italian Civil Protection, the Civil Department anchored in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers that coordinates the activities of all law enforcement agencies operating on the field in case of a state of emergency or main events, such us Religious gathering and The Pope’s visits.
The Palestinian delegation also visited the Italian Police Unit operating for the Vatican and Pope security, the Joint Police Operation Room in Rome and the Holy Place of Loreto, received by the civil and religious authorities.
In the past few years the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) has been able to achieve significant progress in all areas of its work, including the Tourist and Antiquities Department, which carries out essential tasks focusing on the protection and the preservation of the national heritage, as well as on maintaining the safety and security of tourists and visitors.
As a result of that, the number of pilgrims and tourists visiting the archaeological and historical sites in this country is significantly increasing every year, a crucial revenue to the Palestinian economy.
