4th International Human Rights Competition for Lawyers Launched
Ramallah, Dec. 23 2011 - Al Quds University and the International Institute for Human Rights and Peace have launched the 2012 edition of the 4th International Human Rights Competition for lawyers to increase people’s awareness on Human Rights issues.
The contest gives lawyers from different regions the opportunity to plead their cases on human rights violations in front of an international audience and a jury composed of high level key players, as well as to a large audience.
Al Quds University has been hosting the competition among lawyers across the world since 2009. Gathering various counselors from different backgrounds, the event represents an opportunity to denounce grave human rights violations.
The Human Rights Competition will take place on October , 7th 2012 at Al Quds University campus. All lawyers are invited to send their applications before the end of March 2012 to mkhatib@law.alquds.edu.
An international delegation, headed by Prof. Anwar ABU-EISHEH, Professor of Law at Al Quds University, and Sébastien BOTREAU-BONNETERRE, Director of the International Institute for Human Rights and Peace in France, conducted several meetings and events to announce the start of the project.
The launching activities included meetings with the Acting President of Al-Quds University, with the Office of the President and the Palestinian Bar Association. In a meeting with the Minister of Justice the competition has been prepared and also a formation for the trainee judges on human rights has been organized.
In the course of launching events, also a three-day Human Rights training took place in Hebron, entitled “Education for Human Rights” and dedicated to children.
Gathering French and Palestinian professionals in Human Rights, this training allowed the discovery and confronting of different visions of Human Rights.
The Human Rights Competition is organized by Al Quds University and the International Institute for Human Rights and Peace and is supported by The French Consulate, the Memorial of Caen, the Palestinian Bar Association, and EUPOL COPPS.
