EUPOL COPPS organizes a course on Economic Crimes for Palestinian police officers

Jericho, 26th October 2013  - EUPOL COPPS developed and delivered a course on Economic Crimes for nine police officers from the Palestinian Civil Police to enhance their understanding and capabilities in combating such offences.

This course aimed at providing awareness of “Economic Crimes and Money Laundering” and to enable participants to teach other officers dealing with such crimes to a basic level. Officers came from various districts in the West Bank.

The participants gained an in-depth understanding of the definitions and current trends of this type of crime from an international perspective and gave the opportunity for the review of certain legislative framework and related Human Rights issues relating to these activities.

During the three-day course, the experts paid a particular emphasis on several varieties of economic crimes activities including credit card fraud and other illegal activities (Internet fraud, money laundering and intellectual property crimes).

The participants were actively engaged in practical exercises based on case studies of real events, where they used their investigative skills in solving complicated cases.

The course provided an opportunity for equipping the PCP with the necessary tools and skills to conduct such investigations.  The course is part of a broader training project on Economic Crimes, and EUPOL COPPS and its counterparts have planned future courses to expand greater learning in this field.

The event was held at the Jericho-based Palestine Academy for Police Sciences, with experts from EUPOL COPPS’s Police Advisory and Rule of Law Sections giving presentations.
