EUPOL COPPS provides school bags for Palestinian students
Ramallah, 4th March 2014 - EUPOL COPPS and Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) provided 1,000 school bags for much needed Palestinian students in three West Bank districts to raise pupils’ awareness on road safety.
The project, which is funded by EUPOL COPPS, targeted poor pupils and mainly those who have hearing and sight impairments in the West Bank districts of Ramallah and Jericho and in some remote areas.
The first batch of bags, which carry PCP and EUPOL COPPS logos and reflective bands to increase the safety of school children, were distributed to 93 pupils in the school of Total Community Centre at the premises of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.
Road safety is a major issue of concern for the Palestinians and the clearly marked reflective school bags, which come in blue, red and green, will contribute in creating a safer usage of the roads for motorists and pedestrians, including school children.
The aim of the project is also to enhance trust and confidence of school children towards the PCP and to reduce the number of traffic accidents. These activities coincided with Road Traffic Safety Awareness Campaign that targets schools.
