EUPOL COPPS funds training in strategic planning for Palestinian Ministry of Justice

Sixteen officials from different units of the Palestinian Ministry of Justice took part in a training on 1 and 2 November designed to strengthen the strategic planning processes in the Ministry. The training was funded by EUPOL COPPS, and delivered by Mr. Khaled Shtayeh, a prominent Palestinian expert in the field.

“Strategic planning is a tool which helps institutions to better align their available resources to their overall objectives,” said Rana Bahu, EUPOL COPPS Legislative Drafting Adviser. “Small changes made at the level of strategic planning in a public institution can have significant results in terms of outcomes for the communities they serve. This is why EUPOL COPPS is proud to be providing support for the Palestinian Ministry of Justice in this area”.

The training focused on how to set and evaluate strategic objectives, particularly taking into consideration how to create synergies with overall local and international priorities. Attention was focused on how the strategic planning processes within the Ministry of Justice can be coordinated with the strategies set for the wider justice sector.

The training emphasised a participative and collaborative approach, with participants encouraged to offer their opinions and discuss issues openly through group exercises, role play, brainstorming, case studies and practical exercises.
