Traffic fines mushroom in Palestine after enhanced police enforcement

Thousands of Palestinian motorists have been confronted with fines for seat-belt and speeding violations. Since September, the Palestinian Civil Police has beefed-up its presence and activities in the streets of Palestine resulting in a significant escalation – up to 1,300% – of traffic violation tickets.

“Road Traffic Safety saves lives. Enforcing traffic violations is a way to increase safety for drivers and pedestrians on the roads of Palestine. It is a long term effort, but the short term results are remarkable”, says EUPOL COPPS Traffic Advisor Erik Nielsen, after having reviewed the latest data on the effect of increased law enforcement.
