Head of Mission on flying visit to four prisons in one day

EUPOL COPPS supports the Palestinian Correction and Rehabilitation Centre Department (CRCD) in handling the multitude of challenges and complexity of managing modern prison facilities.

To familiarize himself with the situation, the Head of Mission, Kauko Aaltomaa together with Penitentiary Adviser, Lars Widholm and Senior Police Adviser, Jarkko Toivonen conducted a flying visit to four Correction and Rehabilitation Centers in the West Bank. The field visit took place this week and included two older prisons in Nablus and Jenin as well as the two new Correction and Rehabilitation Centers there, which – when they become operational – will replace the outmoded prisons.

The field visit included deliberations as to the opening and operation of the two new facilities. The team from the Mission was accompanied by the Head of the CRCD, Colonel Miqdad Sulaiman, CRCD Research and Program Director, Colonel Sofian Omareya and other CRCD staff.
