Head of Mission meets the Attorney General of Palestine

Yesterday, the Attorney General of Palestine, Dr. Ahmad Barak welcomed the Head of the EU Police and Rule of Law Mission for the Palestinian Territories, Kauko Aaltomaa to the Attorney General’s Office in Ramallah.

Amongst other issues, the Attorney General and the Head of Mission discussed ways to advance the Prosecution-Police cooperation and coordination, including through strategic measures and guidance. The Mission offered its assistance to facilitate such measures.

The Head of Mission commended the Attorney General’s continuous focus on human rights and fair trail principles, including the progress made by the Human Rights Unit recently established within the Attorney General's Office, which the Mission will continue to support. He also emphasised a greater international attention to the Rule of Law. The Attorney General expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration between the Mission and the Attorney General's Office.

In the context of Prosecution-Police cooperation, he stressed the good personal cooperation between the Chief of Police and himself and the continued cooperation generally. He also welcomed the increased focus on the Rule of Law.

The Head of Mission was accompanied by the Head of the Rule of Law Section, Giovanni Galzignato, and used the meeting to introduce the new Deputy Head of Mission and Chief of Staff, Dr. Katja Dominik and the Mission’s new Prosecution Expert, Andreas Laursen, to the Attorney General.

From the Attorney General's Office, Khaled Awad, Head of the General Administration and Policy Department; Majd abu Obeid, Head of International Relations; and Tahreer Atta, Head of the Planning Department, participated in the meeting.
