EUPOL COPPS facilitates study trip for Palestinian Judges and Chief Prosecutors to Romania

From 20 – 24 August 2017, EUPOL COPPS facilitated a study trip for three Palestinian judges from the Judicial Inspection Department of the High Judicial Council (HJC) together with two Chief Prosecutor from the Attorney General Office to the Homolog Institution in Romania. During the four-day study visit which was concluded on Friday, EUPOL COPPS gave Palestinian Judges and a Chief Prosecutors the opportunity to exchange experiences in the area of judicial inspection. Other areas of expertise were also discussed, including disciplinary liability, professional evaluation and court/prosecution offices management control with colleagues from Romania. Besides visiting the Homolog Institution in Bucharest, the delegation visited courts and prosecution offices in Brasov and Cluj Napoca, allowing them to learn from the practical experience in the area of the judicial inspection. Last year, Romania and the High Judicial Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of cooperation in the inspection field. The support of EUPOL COPPS aims at empowering the Palestinian justice sector institutions to effectively perform assigned roles and responsibilities and to enhance the accountability in the justice sector.
