Training the Palestinian Judicial Police

 14th march 2010, EUPOL COPPS participated today in the opening ceremony of a training programme on Security, Handling of Detainees, Execution of Court Judgements and Requests to the Palestinian Judicial Police in Ramallah.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Chief of Police, Brigadier General AL MUSEIMI; the Chief of the Judicial Police, Lieutenant Colonel Iyad SHTIEH; the Deputy Head of Mission of the Representative Office of the Netherlands to the PA, Mr Ard VAN DER VORST; one of the teachers of this course, Mr Friedrich SCHWINDT and the new Head of the Rule of Law Section of EUPOL COPPS, Mr Nicholas ROBSON.

The six week training is funded by the Netherlands and coordinated by EUPOL COPPS’ Criminal Justice and Police Law Expert, Mr Michael SCHULTE-SCHREPPING. Three experts from Austria, Germany and Slovenia will deliver this training to 98 Palestinian Judicial Police Officers. At the end of this course, the trainees will be deployed in the three offices that have been identified in Salfit, Nablus and Jenin.
At the event, all the representatives made a reference to the importance of identifying more district offices in order to establish a fully functioning Judicial Police.
Training Palestinian Judicial Police Officers is an expression of the commitment of the EU to the creation and implementation of a professional and specialised Judicial Police across all courts of the West Bank.
