Italy, 18th of May 2012, Italian traffic police specialists met their Palestinian counterparts in Rome to share with them their experiences on traffic related matters. Senior Palestinian Police officers visited the Italian Traffic Police Department where they received information about European Traffic Awareness Programme for children, Inter-Cultural Approaches for Road Users Safety (ICARUS) and the Italian/European strategy for road safety and mobility.
The Italian hosts showed the three-member traffic police delegation an overview of specialised traffic police programme, training methodology and curricula. The two parties held discussions to explore the possibility of further cooperation between the Italian and Palestinian police for training and development.
The delegation also visited the new Italian coordination centre for traffic circulation (Viabilità Italia) and were briefed on the Italian crisis management plan including the coordination role between law enforcement agencies and civil defense.
The four-day visit was coordinated by EUPOL COPPS and funded by Technical Assistance and Information Exchange (TAIEX), an instrument introduced by the EU to deliver aid through programmes and projects across the world.”
